Biography

Dr. D. Lakshmi is a Senior Associate Professor in the School of Computing and Assistant Director of the Centre for Innovation in Teaching & Learning at VIT Bhopal University, Madhya Pradesh. Before joining VIT Bhopal, she served as an Educational Research Officer at Vishnu Educational Development and Innovation Centre (VEDIC) and Associate Professor at B V Raju Institute of Technology, Hyderabad, until February 2021. With over 22 years of experience in education, Dr. Lakshmi specializes in enhancing higher education learning efficacy through educational technology, educational data mining, virtual education, and educational psychology.

Dr. Lakshmi’s expertise in the Theory of Computation led her to author a book and handbook on the subject, making her the first Indian woman to publish in this area. She won the Best Paper Award for her work, Use of ICT in Teaching Theory of Computation: An Experimental Case Study, at the IEEE Conference on MOOC Technologies in 2013. She has conducted extensive training and workshops, impacting over 50,000 faculty members nationwide through programs sponsored by agencies like TEQIP, AICTE, and MHRD. She has also served as a Subject Matter Expert and jury member for national conferences, reviewed academic publications, and contributed to academic book reviews for publishers like Tata McGraw Hill and Pearson.

Her research has been featured in numerous international journals and conferences, with 15 conference presentations, 9 journal publications, 2 book chapters, and 8 Indian patents filed, plus 5 Australian patents granted. In 2021, she received another Best Paper Award at a Springer Conference for her work on snake classification using deep learning. Dr. Lakshmi recently published Leading Education in the Age of Disruption: An Educator Guideline Series, an educational guide for contemporary educators.
